Re: Miss Cabral

Jen Cabral is nothing more than a self entitled cry baby.  Sell your commercial street home to someone who will turn it into housing for seasonal employees if you are so concerned.  Your short sighted position on Jeff Jaren cost us all too much.  Ignorance

Cabral Rebuttal

I challenge those who will not stand up at Town Meeting (or even attend, for that matter) to do so. Let your voice be heard. Being recognized and heard is far better than wining after the fact.

The Cabral estate generates a fair amount of revenue for the town. The only folks who would benefit from a sale would be the real estate mongrols. So cool your heels and go back to your winter den. Spring is a long, long way away.
6:50 pm edt

Re: Miss Cabral

If Jen Cabral thinks people should give up their property rights in order to provide affordable housing, why doesn't she put her money where her mouth is and take advantage of the new zoning regulations that would allow her to turn 40% of her single family home into an affordable housing unit?

Re: Provincetown School = Financial Drain

It's costing us $850,000 for the commuting students. And how much for the ones who stay?? Why do we need two bills for 1 school system. Does this make sense?

Re: Spelling

Spelling Challenged Like the folks in favor of the current government administration calling people who don't agree "racist." That shuts them up for sure. Keep ridiculing. It won't stop the truth.

1:41 pm edt

Re: Spelling

Why address the spelling and neglect the issue being addressed? Seems mean spirited and petty. I've seen this many times but I still have faith in the integrity and intelligence of the people of Provincetown.

Kids going to nauset?

Actually the high school kids do go to Nauset at a cost if $850,000.  Is that what you mean?

"OMG! You can barely spell but you criticize the school.  LOL"

So much for an opposing viewpoint. Instead of criticizing, we ridicule. Is this the best you've got???

Re: Miss Cabral

"A Lobby? courage from Cabral?"

Imagine all the courage! When you're living in a piece of property worth, literally, several million dollars that you could sell with a snap of the fingers. Such courage! Here's a selfish, entitled, and frankly nasty woman who STILL doesn't work (unless it takes a Master's Degree to bark at Ross'Grill...I'll have to look at the job qualifications), and was left that megabucks piece of property and she wants to tell US, the PLEBS, what selfless looks like. Condo your place, darling, because no one gives a rat's backside what you do. There's hardly anyone left that even knows who the heck you are, or where you're from. Condo it and be done. And just stop with the preaching and crap at town meeting. You've inflicted yourself on us enough. Just sell it and have a nice life and leave the rest of us alone.

Re: Provincetown School = Financial Drain

International Bach Program

A desperate attempt for teachers and admin staff to keep their positions in a town that doesn't need them. After 20 years in the field, I too, have seen this feeble ploy to make parents think their kids will automatically get into college. Just isn't the case. Talk about exploiting children for their own gain.

6:27 pm edt

Re: So Glad That David Panagore is Here

Sharon Lynn may be gone, as are Austin, Elaine and David.  At their last town meeting we purchased the VFW and we funded OPEB.  Since then?

Objectively, what has the current BOS or Finance Committee accomplished since the awful people who trammeled our liberties, etc. left?

What is Tom Donegan's legacy as Chair?  What really is Mike Canizales' legacy?  A Housing Trust that has money but no approval from the state?  What else?

I await your answers.

6:23 pm edt

Re: Provincetown School = Financial Drain

All the school talk about how great our International Bach.is a total bunch of crap. What that program offers much ado about nothing. With 40 year in education I've seen this PR nonsense time and time again.

Re: Provincetown School = Financial Drain

The School

It's an 80+ year old building. Send the kids to Nauset, and be done with it. We were told in 2013 this would be the end of the nonsense. In 2010, us teachers were ushered out and put out to pasture because of budget restrictions. Seems funny that money can be found for trips, extra staff members, and a secretary in every pot.

I, as a town resident resent the penny wise, dollar foolishness that's been going on since 2010. Enough is enough! A transparent school administration this is not!

Opposing Viewpoints

I thought the basis of democracy was having the freedom to express our opinions whether for or against. Being called "sick" is not only petty....but scary.

I guess democracy in Provincetown means having one and only one viewpoint. Reminds me of fighting for my gay rights to a an unbending straight society. It sends shivers down my spine.

Answer is yes
3:18 pm edt

Provincetown School Trip to Costa Rica

I Have A question: Are the Teachers Paying for their Trip to Costa Rica?

Or are their flights being paid for by the fund raising? and why would you send middle school students on a trip to Costa Rica? Maybe high school students, but why not a more local trip? what ever happened to school trips to Plymouth or even Boston?

But again: Are the teachers paying for their flights and housing in Costa Rica? and how many teachers and support staff are going on this "student trip"?

11:46 am edt

So Glad That David Panagore is Here

and equally glad that Sharon Lynn is not in that office. What a breath of fresh air to have her gone--and to have him here.

She was such, as some have posted, a disaster. And now Ann MaQuire, David MaCHesney, Austin KNight and Elaine Anderson are gone.

A breath of fresh air here at the end of October. a sigh of relief! a chance for this town to right the sinking ship.

Oh, yes--and so is Michelle Couture gone--another of these failed selectmen.

Re: Miss Cabral

A Lobby? courage from Cabral?

Please, it only took her sense of herself--and she is full of herself to present herself to town meeting and hog the  mike.

Please--she needs to look into the mirror and see reality.

Sad, she could be intelligent but she fails when over and over she trips over herself.

11:37 am edt

Provincetown School = Financial Drain

I have a fantastic idea, why doesn't the super, the principal, the vice principal, the social worker and the staff donate a portion of their exorbitant and sinful salaries to the cause. I'd bet they'd shut their mouths. It's called the fleecing of a town in the name of "the children."

Ok, we have a Baccalaureate program. Start charging the very few parents the equivalent of a college tuition for that program ...don't look to the town for a handout for a  dilapidated that should be condemned. No wonder that the majority of the school board consists of members with kids. It serves their selfish agenda. It isn't fair for those of us with no kids. Is anyone else outraged?

Re: Special Town Meeting

Reread my post! I didn't attack the kids , I attacked the super. And you must know she was using the kids to gain support for the reno  which I supported and voted for. Did you? To call another person sick for their opinion is exactly what is wrong.

12:12 pm edt

Re: Special Town Meeting

To the poster who accused Beth Singer of "traipsing" the children to town meeting, let me make it clear that since I have been moderator, I have asked the Provincetown Police Honor Guard and the school children to participate in our town meeting by presenting the colors, saluting the flag and singing a patriotic song. My parents encouraged my sister and me to participate in our government. It's never too early to teach our children what democracy is all about.

Cheryl Andrews

Along with Jennifer Cabral, I'd like to acknowledge the contributions of selectman Cheryl Andrews. She is straight forward, open to new ideas, and thoughtful. It's interesting to watch her colleagues shift and barely contain their physical decorum when Cheryl speaks at the privileged mic, reminding me of little boys anxious to have the next great thought. Some people got it, some don't.

Re: Sharon Lynn

Sharon Lynn did not arrive in Rehoboth Beach with the power base already in place that she had in Provincetown. She was able to take charge in a ruthless way because she had the BOS in her pocket. Down there she has her head down trying to pick allies. It's Provincetown's good fortune she and Jaran are gone. Be thankful and quit posting her evil deeds. We're all over it and should move on.

Go out and get some fresh air and a fresh perspective on life. The issues you bring up are over and in the rear view mirror. And how did you attach Ferguson to the discussion????

Clarence, do some proofreading in here on posts regarding the past and as a start, maybe take down the Jaran report crap. We all know about it and it's time to move on.

Nice Selective Posting

My post about the 'fundraiser' for the library from the friends and supporters was never shown, yet it meets the criteria you post.
They are under investigation, they don't support the library, so why are they holding a fundraiser?
Good to know you're objective. Not.

Re: Sharon Lynn

What You've Missed is that the violence in Provincetown and Threats and the Over-Use of Police Power in Provincetown

happened before the Ferguson incident and foretold what could happen when the police are given too much power and misuse their authority. that is what Jeff Jaran did and that is what Sharon Lynn did. they worked to gain more and more power and used their positions to threaten and intimidate and more.

We were on our way to Ferguson--that is what you have missed. both had lost any respect for those they opposed and they did whatever they could do to maintain their power and even gain more power.

Did you forget the Austin Knight fiasco? they attempt to use police intimidation to get people in town to vote for Austin over Donegan because they needed the votes of the Selectmen to keep Sharon as town  manager and she to keep Jaran as police chief.

those who do not remember the past---yes, are doomed to repeat it!

Subject: Resignation

Dear Doug & Mary-Jo,

I wanted to submit my resignation as both member and Chair of the Provincetown Finance Committee. It has been an honor, privilege, hoot and complete pain in the lower extremities to serve. I hope I did more good than harm and if so, would welcome the opportunity to serve again if my family situation changes.

In the meantime, Ill occasionally play voyeur via PTV and hope that you or any member of Town government or the Committee will not hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance.

Yours in Good Government (yes I went there) J

Beth Singer - Provincetown High School

Still can't stomach the superintendent of schools. Instead of just saying clearly what fuel costs are and what they should be, we got some mumbo-jumbo about btus. Saying that a homeowner will only pay .013 on the dollar of assessed value of their  home is misleading at best. Most homes are valued at well over 500 thousand dollars, the property tax increase is substantial. The school committee should have fixed the heat first, roof next year  and the rest down the line. I voted no at the ballot box, mostly because I do not like the nonsense that Beth Singer continues to spew. Move to Provincetown lady and help pay for the repairs.

11:59 am edt

Dear Moderator

First thank you for your service last night. My only constructive criticism for you is to please stop publicly putting down your husband in the absurd manner that you do. Leave it at home. It makes us uncomfortable to hear that type of dribble coming from you at the mic. Show a little more decorum please. Other than that - job well done. We as a town accomplished a lot last night.

Economics 101

Supply and demand tells us that the less condos available for sale with the same amount of demands creates a higher market sales price, remember economics 101. Thus incentivizing higher rental prices to recover investment on the dollar. So I am perplexed how anyone would think that a moratorium on condos in Provincetown could generate more year-round rentals. Just the opposite should occur if you do the math.

Re: Sharon Lynn

"We came close to being on the edge of a militaristic state throughout town. some may not see how close we came but we did. And what happened at the Pig would have been only the beginning."

This has got to be one of the most absurd, exaggerated and ridiculous statements I've ever read on this blog. I actually laughed out loud.

With all the actual, REAL police violence and abuse of power we've seen in this country over the last year, you're REALLY going to dredge up this non-issue? It's really very insulting to the people who've LOST THEIR LIVES to police violence. Are you gonna tell me you don't see the difference between Ferguson and the Squealing Pig?? You really want to rehash this (very costly) mountain that was made out of a very minor mole hill AGAIN? REALLY?

Get over it. Or go get the therapy you clearly need.

Sharon lynn was the problem, not the Chief. She was the boss and the buck stopped with her. End of story. let's move on. We have a new Town manager and it's time to see what he brings to the table. Let's focus on the new changes in personnel. Be positive and good things will happen.

3:13 pm edt

Re: Sharon Lynn
There is Something Key to Seeing and Noting a c\Contrast

and I surely see and feel one with David Panagore. He is surely not anything like Sharon Lynn and that is so important, so crucial for this community. Sharon Lynn turned out to be a disaster. She was weak, ineffective and used her police chief tactics, doubled with police chief Jaran, to get her way. she was authoritarian and problematic.

Had she stayed and had he been inn place the militaristic, threatening police mentality would have infused more and more of this town--from town hall, to the streets, and to the piers.

We came close to being on the edge of a militaristic state throughout town. some may not see how close we came but we did. And what happened at the Pig would have been only the beginning.

Never again--a good motto for Provincetown.

Building Commissioner

I Look forward to enforcement of Town rules

now that what's his name has resigned. Yes, please, do spend more time with your children--even though they are adults! this is a good thing. Now we can return, I hope, to a town that does enforce its own Zoning and Historic District by-laws. Otherwise, why have boards and commissions? And I do believe we need good contractors but they should not be the ones determining if our by-laws are being kept. That makes no sense. so here's to more sense, more accountability and to homes that remain standing instead of "falling" and the community development staff is "shocked" "astounded" and "oh, well!"

I hope those days are behind us now.

Re: This Moderator Has Done a Professional Job

"The attempts to undermine her are more than ridiculous. they are poisonous."

Are any of us really surprised? Every time you turn around these people, like cockroaches, appear again trying to either turn people against each other, or trying to control things through rules changes. Remember when they were trying to re-write the Charter? Remember when they were trying to de-rail the old chief's investigations? Remember when they were trying to jam a 12 million dollar police station down our throats? Now they want to control things again by implying that the people speaking shouldn't be 'authority figures' whatever that is. Can't we all just use this vote to finally put these people in their place, stop this silliness, and tell these people that we see through all their tactics? It's time, really time, for all this to stop.

Re: Provincetown Building Commissioner

Yes, the Building Commissioner Has Resigned

But for some of us this is already old news. but for those who do not know: Jeff Larsen has offered his resignation two days ago.

This may mean finally enforcement of rules instead of square dancing with contractors. I look forward to a building commissioner who knows the town, is on the street, and who knows the rules of all boards and commissions--not simply state building code.

It is a new day--we do have a new town manager and I see his standards are clear, definitive and consistent. Know your job; know the town; or, please, leave.

Washington to Provincetown

Hillary Clinton did an amazing job in eleven hours of interrogation. she was poised, bright, knowledgeable, intellectual and showed all that she was Secretary of State and she is ready to move up.

She was quite impressive. It brought back her position as Secretary of State and the work she did in that position.

Few could do what she did yesterday.
10:22 pm edt

Do Not Dare Send Her Back

She is never to return in any position of authority. they have her and they can keep her.

10:21 pm edt

This Moderator Has Done a Professional Job

The attempts to undermine her are more than ridiculous. they are poisonous. Armstrong-sorry, but you lost and these insane ideas with 51 pages of nonsense to hold the mike in front of the house is insane. We would be there all night walking from everything to there--we already have mikes. the Jen Cabral "manifesto" is pure dribble, child's play and not a mature response to town meeting.

Let's use the mikes we have wisely but use the ones we have.

What's with the humongous, stupendously boring presentation about how people ought to talk, where, and to whom? I mean, besides the obvious copyright violations and where it refers to townspeople as "sheep" (not kidding, look it up, it's there!), what is this about? Someone else didn't get elected as the Moderator, so now we have a small group of people who are trying to change the way town meeting works because they don't like it? I have an idea, let's do what we've always done, listen to the volunteers who put in an enormous amount of time on town issues, and try to give us their best. Let's let the Moderator do the job she's supposed to do and that we elected her for instead of letting people with grudges try to change things to get their own way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and there's enough broke in this town that needs fixing without needless and made-up controversies again. Next thing you know, they'll be trying to figure out ways to stop who they want to from sp!

"As for the current selectmen, unlike the previous group who adored Sharon, and never did anything but praise her, they have taken steps to ensure that what happened with Jaran never happens again."

Quit acting like the current selectmen are heroes. Particularly Donnegan, who dug in his heels, decided to play hardball with the courts and lost.

2:20 pm edt

Provincetown Building Department

I agree with what is being said about the building department. Our Somerset Heights community sent letters to the new Town Manager, Building Department, Planning and Zoning regarding 2 single family homes being constructed on a single lot at 12 Somerset Road and nothing has been done. Both buildings have a full kitchen and bedrooms though the Town's property card says otherwise. The construction of these 2 dwellings has been ongoing and continuous for more than 8 years.

Re: Sorry But Your Memory is Warped

So whats with all the Lynn and Jaran postings? Please, enough with your pubescent grudges.  You delusional enough to believe that they still care what you think? They are long gone working and living in new states. In two more months it will be the year 2016.  You're still living as if it were 2013! You must be the last to know that our new Town Manager can see through all this.  Obviously you haven't figured out our new TM is a long time friend of the guy who was the investigator for the Marcum Report. (Can't remember the investigator's name, but he ended up testifying for Jaran). Yes, I'm sure our new TM has heard all about this nonsense.  They're friends from way back when in Connecticut. So please, move on!

Good Reporters are Gems

Some residents, however, seem not to know the difference between good reporters and catty carriers of gossip. (have you noticed there is less of this sinice David Panagore arrived--a blessing.)

Ann Wood is perceptive, hard-working and what she writes is what it is. As to jaran, Sharon, and the syncophants who followed, there is a fresh autumn air that reigns with their departure.

Now let's get on with the real news by a real reporter. Truth is never easy. But it is what we need!

As for the current selectmen, unlike the previous group who adored Sharon, and never did anything but praise her, they have taken steps to ensure that what happened with Jaran never happens again.  I feel our interests are being kept in mind far more so than with the previous "Sharon Lynn Cheerleading Squad, aka Austin, David and Elaine.

Look, I think that Lynn should never have been manager.  Lightweight without proper attitude towards responsible job.  But, she did not do renovations without approval from town meeting and I'm sure can't renovate in Delaware without town approval of money.

What is this "word on the street BS"?  Like childish rumors.  Who said tit that knows?  Sources of rumors?

Jaran won, Ptown lost, and all taxpayers will suffer as a result.  Unfortunately, Donegan and company gambled and lost at taxpayer expense.  You can spin it anyway you want, but the taxpayers are the losers as a result of poor judgment by elected officials.  Nuff said, let's move on.

It's absolutely amazing how you claim to know with certainty the outcome of this whole situation - how the judge will rule, etc. You're quite the authority. Maybe you can tell us how many years jail time Jaran will get? Or the amount of the fine he'll pay?

No, you can't tell us those things because those statements would simply be your opinion, like much of the rest of your post.

And as for "faulting the messenger," if you'd scroll back a bit, you'll see that Ann Wood was what started this whole thread and was initially the topic of the discussion before (as usual) someone brought the whole discussion back to Sharon Lynn.

Seriously people, Lynn is gone. It's over. Let it go.

Re: Sorry But Your Memory is Warped

"The reality is, the town now owes Jaran a ton of money. That's the bottom line, THAT is what the court decided, regardless of what the Marcum report says."

You are wrong on so many points., the greatest  being your comment about the "court decided". There was no court decision. As per Jaran's contract, written by Town Manager Lynn, the dispute went to arbitration and  it was found that the issues raised by Ann Wood were valid but did not warrant his firing.

In a court of law, his actions would have been found to be criminal in nature and he would have suffered the consequences. As in the Brady v NFL case, Judicial  law would have precedence over a contractual agreement. Ergo no contractual agreement can give relief against a criminal act.

As for the "ton of money", Jaran had better hold on to it because he will probably need it to fend off out- standing and potential additional cases. Point of fact, any individual or group of Provincetown tax payers could file a class action against his actions and the resultant cost to the community.

It is rumored that the town is  presently considering not settling with an existing case currently before the court. This could have broad negative implications on Jaran's "ton of money".

Re: Sorry But Your Memory is Warped

Please keep in mind that:

It wasn't Ann Wood who used town resources to canvas for a Selectman (and Chair, no less) who was running again.
Nor was it Ann Wood who had the "hissy fit" at the Squaling Pig.
She didn't order for his department staff to trespass or destroy private property.
Neither did she lie to press and the toenspeople by saying he wanted a dog at the wharf for the purpose of bomb sniffing.
Nor was it Ann Wood who told one of his staff while at headquarters that her dancing pole had arrived.

She was not the perpetrator; just merely the reporter of the actions of the administrator who had been hired to enforce the laws, and protect the citizens and their property,
Ann Wood didn't do all of these things; he did!  I am grateful to her and Maria Lopez for doing what many didn't dare do.  The climate in our Police Department changed the moment Jaran left.  We feel safe again.

Ann wood did professional reporting and all she reported on concerning Sharon Lynn and Jeff Jaran were true. Read the Marcum Report and see how right she was.

The reality is, the town now owes Jaran a ton of money. That's the bottom line, THAT is what the court decided, regardless of what the Marcum report says.

She wanted her Watergate moment and she had it. Now the town is paying for it. All she accomplished was helping one of the selectmen use the situation to his advantage to get elected (and we all know how he turned out.)

So yeah, hooray for Ms. Wood.

Re: Where are They?!

It is my understanding that contractually the town was bound by the previous Town Manager to allowing union town workers the right to work forty hours per week over a period of 4 1/2 days. Why can't the 1/2 day be any other day than Friday? This would allow second homeowners an opportunity to transact town business on Friday.

Additionally, important departments i.e. Community Development, Building Commission, Inspection, DPW, Health, Town Clerk etc should  be available at all times. The Department heads should definitely be available 5 days a week full time , as the contract does not apply to supervisors.

This Has Been a sad Week and More

The loss of Ray Nolin, such a bright, artistic person. Then the loss of rick the Stick, engaged, enthusiastic musician and song writer, a man who brought life to jazz and jazz to life, left us. and then Howard Weiner, the voice of Opera, a man who understood the intricacies of pitch, of interpretation and of the essence of Opera.

I hope we don't have to lose such talented, artistic and enthusiastic men to value this community. all three were part of us and are a part of us. If there is any lessons, it is that we must value who we are and what this community ultimately is: unique, diverse, bright, and inspired.

Re: 532 Commercial Street

There is  no enforcement in Provincetown. There is no close inspection. We have a Building commissioner who is afraid to inspect, afraid to closely check the difference between what is permitted and what is built. He is happy if all the paperwork is complete and in order. But outside, nothing is stopped. He spends too much time inside  his office and not walking the streets.

So look at all the demolitions. Look at all the larger-then-permitted buildings.

We need a Building Commissioner who enforces the rules of Zoning, Planning and Historic District. Otherwise, we have rules on the books that come to not.

Provincetown on a Clear Day

PROVINCETOWN SEEN IN THE CLEAR LIGHT OF DAY-EXCLUSIVE RESORT

Decades ago a man told people that Provincetown was going to become a resort town--an no one believed him.

Thirty years ago a woman said that Provincetown housing would become expensive like Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard cost of housing--and no one believed her.

It is only because of social media that this being broadcast and the one's doing the broadcasting are the renters who can't keep pace with the upscale changes due to the job situation in town. This is a town of mom and pop, mom and mom and pop and pop stores.

You aren't going to be able to raise a family and sock away savings at most places--unless they are upscale restaurants or bars.

People make a choice to live here and work the jobs that are available here--and then the years pass and they are older and complain that they can't pay the same rent here as they did years ago because the owner died and their heirs are renting at the current market rate or their housing was sold etc etc etc.

It is the way of the world. My parents paid $15,000.00 for their house where they live in another state and now the house across the street sold for close to $400,000.00 dollars.

Castigating and making villains out of second home owners or people who own property and rent it out isn't going to get you anywhere (except possibly make landlords fearful of renting to you.)

The ranting and raving and the shaking of fists at the fate of Provincetown becoming an exclusive resort has been going on for years..And yet the Art Association still has galla dinners with overflowing attendance, First rate talent is performing in town at first rate prices and the venues are sold out..so think about this and about where you are choosing to live and how it makes you look ranting and raving over the fate that you have chosen.

Provincetown is what it is--not what it was. Please look at the economic picture in the clear light of day.

10:31 pm edt

Who's Watching the Store - 532 Commercial Street

Many people I know kept asking how the property at 532 Commercial Street got permission to go way beyond the footprint for the huge addition on the back of the house. I went by there this weekend and I was surprised, make that astounded, to see how big thisWhy would the Historical Commission grant permission to go beyond footprints to one home owner and not others? Also. who inspects these buildings to see that people do not go beyond the permission they were granted? At least now if I want to put on an addition to my house, I won't need to worry about a footprint.

Re: Constant Complainers

 HOW SAD: RPOVINCETOWN VICTIMS

It is so sad that people identify as "victims" when the situation is that they can't afford to live in Provincetown. You can't live anywhere working a few months a year, have the rest of the year off to enjoy yourself collecting unemployment and expect to get ahead.

Our parents and grandparents didn't live like this; I didn't grow up like this. I WORKED for what I wanted. The world has changed. Provincetown is an exclusive resort now. People buy condos inorder to live here and have a life here.

Landlords don't want to rent year round to complainers and discontents who have housing lawyers and on their speed dial and rake landlords over the coals who are just trying to make a life here working two jobs like everyone else.

Provincetown landlords are the new villans..but no one talks about the demon tenants who sell drugs and are destructive and who are taken into police custody because of their behavior.

Look to yourselves, tenants of Provincetown. Look to yourselves before you cry and moan and groan to the board of selectmen..we, the landlords pay the taxes and the selectmen take your sides and denigrate us-while you sell your drugs and work under the table and do what you do that is a cancer upon this town...but you have the sympathy of the powers that be and all we can do is rent summer only to save ourselves from your infection.

peace and love to the people and tenants WHO DESERVE IT!!!!!!\

Is this kind of attitude supposed to be helpful?  Stereotyping is silly.  Not all parttimers are rich.  They all don't have fancy cars.  They all can't leave their jobs to get here when you think that can. One thing that they all do is pay most of our taxes for us, and give me and plenty of others jobs doing all kinds of things that homeowners need.  Why is it whimish to want to be able to get service from town hall considering that by far most of the property tax money comes from them.  You sound like a pretty sad, nasty type that hates anyone that has more than you.  If you have anything helpful to say, please say it.

So if you want the job, then take pen in hand and pen to paper and do one thing: sign the contract.

Re: Provincetown Police Chief

There was an executive session over the police chief contract last evening. Does any one know where this embarrassing situation stands? Not only should Golden NEVER named Chief but now he refuses to sign a contract because he's holding out for more! Enough is enough and the new Town Manager better resolve this once and for all. It's time to move on and reopen the search for a new Chief. Many of us never wanted him to lead the police department. Let him live in Truro and have him burn his own gas money. I see him daily driving all over the Cape including running errands at local shops. Is that why we provide a town vehicle?

Re: One Town Meeting After the Other

"Time to have only one town meeting. These special town meetings should be reserved for very special times not an opportunity to get something through because few people are here."

Wait!! Are you saying that many of our "full time" voting-eligible people are not really that at all?  My gosh, how shocking.  Is it time to have another category of tax payer?  Really full time, sort of full time (sort of part time) and really part time?

Re: Parking

I have to pay the town property tax to keep my house. If I park my car in a town owned parking space without a sticker I get a ticket. Then why the heck can some piece of crap camper, with Vermont plates, park all summer long at Pilgrim Landing rotary. Seriously, move that thing out of there police department/parking department.

Re: Where are They?!

Call the super town manager already. Now we have someone to answer to the citizens. This sounds like a regurgitated get-Sharon post. Some people NEVER stop complaining.

Re: Where Are they?!

In response to the concerns about where Town Hall Employees are during any set hours is silly. Most of these people working these jobs put in way over the hours they get paid for. Meetings, training requirements, homework, and being generally overloaded is typical of most town employees. In any town. We are no exception in Provincetown, and in general we have a well-run town hall!
That has not always been the case, be thankful. Less criticism and more optimism!

Re: Provincetown Police Chief

Why isn't the the Golden situation being discussed in the open at Selectman meetings? It is not a personnel issue if were talking about if a contract is in place or not! We have a right to know what is happening and the level of commitment being demonstrated by the police chief. My god, he doesn't have to live in town like all the previous chiefs over the years so he should be sacrificing something in terms of a contract to sign. We is the BOS or our new Town Manager on this issue?

Why do the "kids" Need Costa Rica?

This is not a high school trip--really, great expectations is rather questionable. time for a more realistic viewpoint--in more ways than one.

Re: Where Are They?!

Call Town Hall?

But that is the problem. they do not answer--some--on Fridays. they do not respond to e-mails. they are NOT there. so stopping by at town hall on Fridays will not be in any way productive. that IS the problem.

Parking Lot Problems

Whoever the owner is of the vintage car jacked up so high that you could drive another car under it, could you please find some place to permanently park it besides the meter lot next to Days Propane? (where it's been parked for what seems like months!)

Your car is extremely long and takes up way too much room in a long narrow parking lot like that one. This lot is frequently used by the property mgmt. business next door for their large pickup trucks, and between the giant jacked up muscle car and all the trucks, it's practically impossible for anyone else to get in or out. I attempted to park their yesterday morning and gave up, despite several open spots. I couldn't get past your car!!!

If you don't have room for it in your own driveway, you shouldn't own it. Please stop inconveniencing others (including paying tourists) who need to use this public lot.

that is just fabulous news. I am thrilled and it will great to be back there in the front room--my favorite. and to have Italian food and to keep the tradition alive.

We are all fortunate!

Where Are They?!

Some town employees are Not Here at all on Fridays

Not a half day but not there at all. this is not what has been happening in the past. Gone on Fridays is news to me--and I mean gone all day Friday. don't call. don't e-mail. don't ask for any paperwork.

Re: Where Are They?!

Town hall and other departments work a 4.5 day week, 9 hour days, 1/2 day Friday. It's been that way since they changed the contracts a few years ago. Where have you been?

Re: Schools and Town Hall

"Both definately overstaffed.....  There are more secretaries at both places then there is work to be done.."

I'm sure that you are right, otherwise you would never post this stuff.  I'm sure that you have done a study of the needs and assets available.  please post your results with the numbers of hours worked vs loafed.  Include any data that you have gleaned from your exhaustive research on matters involving workloads and required hours.  Thanks.

Where Are They?!

"Ask a question. Try to reach some employees and if it is Friday, they are not there. Is it true that certain heads of departments are not in on Fridays? that they work a four day week? Can someone explain why this is so."

This is the best answer to your lament:  Call town hall or better yet visit.

Should It Be so Hard to find town employees on a Friday

Ask a question. Try to reach some employees and if it is Friday, they are not there. Is it true that certain heads of departments are not in on Fridays? that they work a four day week? Can someone explain why this is so. It really should not be. Many second home owners need to get answers on Fridays.

No, not everything anyone wants they get. Set up a list of what are the town's priorities--and I do mean the town's--and then afterwards make decisions on those priorities.

It is long term thinking and long term planning. Otherwise, it is sheer foolishness.

It's being kept quiet but Golden still refuses to sign a reasonable contract compiled by our town counsil and elected officials! Why are they letting this man bend them over a barrel? Just admit you backed the wrong horse and did not listen to Selectman Anthony who was the most qualified to determine if Golden was the most qualified or even suitable to be our police chief and move on. In my and a lot of other taxpayers opinions Det. Richie Alves is the only officer currently in our department that has the experience. Integrity. personality, and does not come with a pile of baggage to be our next police chief. So I suggest either offer him the job and see if he accepts and if not look outside the department. I seriously hope that our new town manager does not let this go on indefinitely and is intelligent enough not to give in to Goldens unreasonable demands of to even make him chief at all.

Re: The Sound of One Hand Clapping

Oh, No, It's Not that they Don't Just Care'

It's that they are being watched, observed and they now have to behave as they should have before: as professionals and as town employees.

Sharon Lynn allowed many to voice their opinions as long as it fit her needs--even though she herself was a puppet of Ann MaGuire. It was a complicate network, including Jeff Jaran and Kim Hurd. And there were others--now silently or more silently part of town hall--who were incendiary when Sharon Lynn was Here---and when she left--they filled the vacuum with their own positions, prejudices, and self-inflated ideas.

The air is  now clear. How nice!

Tank you David Panagore. Your presence is as refreshing as the fall air across the piers, along the beaches, and wisping by town hall.

As usual, whenever someone starts a post with "Okay, let me get this straight..." they inevitably go on to misconstrue, conflate, confuse, exaggerate, and distort the intent of the original poster.

So many trolls on this site, just looking to stir the pot and get a rise out of people.

Re: Provincetown Public School System

The Provincetown school system is just operating in a bubble. It is overstaffed on the administrative side  and these same people are grossly overpaid. When I start seeing posts about donations for another COSTA RICAN FIELD TRIP it makes me crazy. We went to the Museum of Science and Canobe Lake Park. Give me a break.

Re: Provincetown Public High School

There is no Demand

The heating system needs to be fixed.  The selectmen knew in 2004 and removed from budget to save money then. This will complete capital improvements to the high school building which is a large town asset.  Here is the problem, here is the solution with a 50% offset for costs.  No demand just facts and a solution

1:13 pm edt

Vote NO on the Condo Ban

The people who own multi-family properties should not be forced to give up their property rights.  If the town wants more year round rental housing then it should encourage private developers to build more but taking away the property rights of multi-family property owners is not fair.

Amazing How So Many Town Officials

are on good behavior since David Panagore was officially town manager. Rarely see nasty postings about others. Some have learned the monk's sense of silence. Even the most chitty chatty are offering neutral pieces of information and news.

He seems to be a town manager that will not tolerate unprofessional behavior, or revealing inside information on line. I applaud this fully.

It has made the other blog rather dull. there are always consequences and unintended ones.

Re: Provincetown Public High School

So once again a school board member has to tell us how stupid we are if 7 million dollars is not spent to fix a heating system in a building to house students. Stop. Tear the damn thing down and make it a parking lot. Let's make some money and send the few remaining students to another town. Offer some assistance for day care for working families. There is no way that it won't be easier to just close the school once and for all. And if you are an alumni of Provincetown Schools and want to tell the rest of us we need to support this nonsense no matter what, stop. Most of the alumni of the school have already sold there family homes for top dollar and moved to Truro.

"Yes it will cost $7 million and more if the heating system is not fixed now and we take advantage of the 50% grant or $3.5 millin the school worked hard to get for the past three years to get."

Wait a minute, WHAT??

The school shut down three years ago and that's when the process started to get the grant to refurbish the then closed school? And who was aware this was going on? Did the selectmen know it was ongoing? Did the town manager? Did the school committee just start the process and say "too bad for you if you didn't pay attention"? Where has the communication been related to this issue? Why didn't the taxpayers know this was potentially coming three years ago??
